38 x 87mm Wooden Fence Rail

Our 38 x 87mm (1.5 x 3.5 inches) is ideal for use with post and rail fencing to keep in livestock. It is a good mid-weight rail. It works very well with 75 x 125mm and 75 x 150mm posts – or why not opt for our pointed posts.

All our timber fence rails are pressure treated to prevent insect attack and fungal decay. These rails are sourced from sustainable forests, responsibly managed for future generations to enjoy.

Simply nail or screw these fence rails to our wooden fence posts to form a perfect boundary fence.

We recommend using bevelled rails with any feather edge board fence – the rain will simply run off.

As with all natural materials, our Timber supply may be subject to movement and deterioration as they season, this is not to considered to be a fault or defect. This may become evident with shakes, splits and warping.

Delivery Logistics: All our Timber range products will be delivered by 3rd party vehicles.

Kerbside delivery applies as standard, but we will typically try to deliver to your front garden or driveway – We will leave the product in a safe location adjacent to the main roadway, but off of any public highways.

**If a delivery scheduled is to a gated community, this will need to be communicated to us in advance and access provided. Where restricted access applies, if waiting times are encountered for the delivery, then additional charges may be incurred.

Cancellations, Exchanges; Failed Deliveries:

• For any orders that are returned (unless deemed faulty), the customer is liable for the return shipping fees equivalent to that incurred in the original order (Timber orders also incur a 75% charge of the initial order value).
• In the unlikely event that we’re unable to complete the scheduled delivery due to access restrictions or a non-secure delivery location, the customer is responsible for the restocking and redelivery fees. If the delivery can’t be rescheduled, then no refund is available.
• If your products are faulty, please email photo evidence over within 24 hours for review.
• All returns or exchange requests need communicating to us via email or telephone within 3 Working Days to be considered (faulty, or not).
• If your order arrives incorrect (missing items etc.), this also needs communicating to us via email or telephone within 3 Working Days to be considered (faulty, or not).

What are Wooden Fence Rails?

Post and rail is a generic term used to describe a fencing system that uses a solid timber post with horizontal rails fastened between the posts.

Sturdy post and rail fencing is a very simple, effective and easily installed style of open fencing. This rustic fencing style is often often seen at horse farms and around pastures.

Post and rail fencing can be used to provide demarcation of smaller areas of land or gardens, or protection for features such as flowerbeds or young trees, while still allowing open views.

Post and rail can also be combined with wire mesh, chain link or barbed wire to provide an open but secure fencing system for agricultural applications.

Where are Wooden Fence Rails Used?

Post and rail fencing is a fence style that uses perpendicular posts driven into the ground with two or more horizontal rails attached between the posts.

Post and rail fencing is constructed either with morticed fence posts with fence rails simply slotted into the mortices, or with solid fence posts with fence rails nailed onto the posts.

This method of fence construction makes it ideal for a run of fencing where the ground is sloping or uneven. As the posts are all inserted at the same height from the ground, the rails can follow the slope of the land between each set of posts.

The structure of post and rail fencing is the same for all types of timber, unless otherwise stated, all posts should be set at 1.8m centres, rail spacing will vary depending on the number of rails used. All nails to be 100mm x 4mm and galvanised.

The two standard fence styles are two-rail, which stand about three feet tall, and three-rail, which stand about four feet tall.

Rails are commonly available in eight- and ten-feet lengths.
